Hi everyone, I’ve not posted for quite a while, you know how life is. Cakes have kinda took a back seat a the moment. But, I was asked by my partners best mate and girlfriend, if I could make their wedding cake! So this is one of only a few that I’ve done this year.
She got the design idea from a cake on pinterest but wanted roses instead of orchids which were the original design.
I was OK making roses, but, was so nervous about piping the scrollwork on the cake. I’ve never piped such an intricate design on the side of a cake before, so I thought I’d practice on a cake tin and maybe trace the design on first to help. But, this didn’t happen and never went to plan because I was then asked if I could make 70 shortbread cookie wedding favours! I said yes thinking it would be a doddle, not realising it would take me about a week to do the cookies!
So, I got the cookies done around 2 days before the wedding and left myself hardly any time to work on the cake! Big lesson learnt! So, I piped the purple scrollwork on freehand, it looked ok, but I wasn’t entirely happy with it. I wanted it perfect. The bride and groom were over the moon with it, and especially the cake flavours they asked for which were…. Carrot and walnut with mascarpone cream cheese buttercream on the bottom, lemon drizzle with lemon buttercream for the 2nd tier, and the top 2 were toffee cake with toffee buttercream, caramel sauce and fudge pieces.
The topper was supplied by the couple.
The cake went down really well and everything else went to plan. Sorry for the big S.A, it’s probably cos I’ve not been on for a while and it’s great to catch up. Thanks for looking xx
