My aim was to create an autumnal themed design using my mums favourite colour, with a touch of metallic shimmer and handmade roses to celebrate her 60th birthday.

I initially intended to apply sequins to the top tier, but prefered the idea of a handpainted silver finish. I applied soft grey fondant before applying the silver lustre (using vodka to make a metallic paint).

I was slightly disappointed that the handpainted finish showed signs of streaks (even though I applied several thin coats of lustre paint) so I applied a powder lustre shimmer to complete the look.

I really liked the leaf design on the bottom tier; a light lustre shimmer was applied to enhance the rich red colours, and was particularly pleased with my handmade roses as flower making is completely new to me.
