Here is a collaboration of 2 minds. Kristin and I work together and during our breaks, we would talk about the perfect cake for Scarlett! The theme shifted from circus to elmo. Either way, i was happy to work with the theme and happier that I was able to create this for baby Scarlett. Happy Happy birthday sweet sweet scarlett! I hope you loved the cake that mommy and i designed especially for you. xoxo Mwaaaaaaaaaah!

Vanilla cake with chocolate smbc filling. Cake frosted in ganache and covered in Fondant. All decors were hand cut. (yes i do own a cricut machine but it has been 2 years and it’s still in the box)

  • a first – 4 in vanilla swiss meringue buttercream covered smash cake. no fondant except for the decors – i almost died. ahahahah thankfully, the upside down method worked for me. Also, sorry for the not so nice piping of the border. I do not know how to pipe much except on cupcakes. LOL

I love your cake!! It is my inspiration for my first time ever decorating a cake. I am making it for my daughter’s second birthday. I was wondering how you made your Elmo on the top. Was it fondant? How did you keep it standing?

oh my thank you so so much. it is such an honor :) so how i made the topper? pretty easy. i just printed out an elmo photo/image on paper then used that as a template and cut the figure out on actual gumpaste. make sure you use gumpaste vs fondant as gumpaste dries really hard. Roll the gumpaste out a bit thicker than normal…. i would say maybe 1/8 thick… once you have your figure, flip it and get a piece of wire or skewer to make a slight indentation of elmo’s back. flip it back once more and add on his facial features. let it dry for a day or two. once it is completely dry, flip it back to where you see your previous indentation. brush a bit of gum glue into the groove and place your skewer or wire into it. get another piece of gumpaste rolled out a bit thinner. just cut into a rectangular shape. just enough so that it would go over and cover the skewer. brush some gum glue onto the rectangular piece and attach it to the back of elmo to cover your skewer. dry elmo once again. :) i hope this makes sense. let me know if you have any other questions. i would love to see what you had made for your daughter’s birthday. :)
