My first journey to making sugar flowers

My first journey to making sugar flowers

I started joining groups on facebook to learn more and get inspiration from other cake decorators and bakers. One thing that caught my attention were sugar flowers. They look so attractive when placed on cakes and I was fascinated by its beauty. Again, after gaining inspiration from other bakers’ creations, I decided to take a gumpaste class under the same instructor who taught me how to make commercial quality fondant from scratch. She taught us how to make a low cost gumpaste recipe which can be made without using stand mixers and can be used as soon as you finish making it (without having to wait for it to mature for 24 hours or so). We made 3 different types of flowers (giant rose, magnolia, poppy) and some fillers. The giant rose was the most difficult flower to make so we started out with that. I had a hard time sticking the petals together as it was my first time to make a giant flower out of gumpaste. Nevertheless, the whole experience was worth it. I learned a whole lot about basic sugar flowers. I was so happy to pass again with flying colors and for being the class valedictorian 2 times in a row 😊
