I am always excited to make bags and baskets. This chocolate cake is for a lovely gentleman’s 60th birthday. Keen on Fly Fishing, this cake was based on the likeness of his own Conway Creel fishing bag.

The cake is carved from two 10" chocolate fudge slab cakes, styled together with ganache. The outer basket weave is hand piped with royal icing and then dry powder coloured before building up the layers of fabric and leather. I have included some progress photos in the side gallery. The board is decorated with a few little hand painted fishing flies made with isomalt bodies. The reel was a bit last-minute winky wonky but it didn’t matter.

The birthday boy was over the moon with his cake. Happy days!
