I’ve been wanting to make a cake in the ‘Thun’ style for ages.
For those who don’t know what that is, there’s a City in the South Tyrol area of Italy called Bolzano
Where in 1950 the Countess Lene was inspired by the faces of sleeping children (the way they pout in their sleep like their blowing kisses) to create little ornaments in that style.
Link below for anyone who’s interesting in reading more for themselves.

I like the way they look old and dusty, and the way they often have those little chubby flowers too.
So this year, I’ve taken my inspiration for our Christmas cake from pictures of Thun ornaments I like.
I’m really pleased with how it turned out, and can’t wait to eat it.
It’s a rich fruit cake laced with lots of cheer!
