Ganapati Bappa Morya!!
Lord Ganesh, also known popularly as Ganapati is one of the most worshipped deities in hindu culture especially in my native state of Maharashtra in India. He is the lord of intellect, wisdom and the remover of obstacles. As the god of beginnings, he is honoured at the start of rites and ceremonies.
The Ganesh festival is celebrated with great fervour on certain days in the months of August-September. The festival begins with people bringing in clay idols of Ganesha, symbolising Ganesha’s visit, worship him daily for either 1.5,3,5,7 or 10 days, followed by immersion on the last day. Throughout the festival, one can hear people saying “Ganapati Bappe Morya” meaning “Bless us all Lord Ganapati (Ganesh)”
The tiny mouse holding a laddo at the lord’s feet is his vehicle.
This festival has always been special to me and my family and what could be better than to make a sugar idol for this collaboration this year!
