For my piece I decided to go with something that represents how it can feel when you or someone you know is depressed- it feels like your heart has been ripped out of your chest. It feels hard to breathe. You feel a mix of panic and anxiety and the prospect of feeling like this forever. The piece is actually a life size replica of my own hand.
