For the worldwide collaboration Sugar Skull Bakers 2017, we made a new cake by mixing two themes and a magical technique: Jack Skellington and the traditional Mexican Celebration of the Dead coupled with fluorescent glow in the dark.
We wanted to make this cake on two rectangular shape to highlight the portrait of Jack. These were airbrushed in purple to create a clean background color for Halloween and added, thanks to our bespoke stencils, silver flashes. We also screened fluorescent blue to get a background with depth when the black light is on.
Then, we had to create the entire bust and face of Jack by assembling a dozen different images before tracing it all in drawing. When the composition is finished, it was necessary to decompose the image into as many patterns as there are details for the pieces of fondant and the different stencils. In order to play the neon effect, we used 3 fluorescent dyes of different colors.
After cutting all the pieces of this giant puzzle and having aerographed the fluorescent and silver parts, we needed to put them together and paste everything. Precision work that leaves no room for error.
Once the black light is on, we are very happy to see the halloween magic come alive through this fluorescent Jack. Do you like the effect ??
