This is my contribution to the Happy 150th, Canada Cake and Sugar Art Collaboration. This is my first time taking part in a collaboration and I want to say thank you to Joanne Spence for putting it together. It was great fun to do and I hope to be able to participate I more down the road (hint, hint everyone….lol)

I myself am not a regular at Tim Horton’s, but I know that it is a big part of the daily ritual for many Canadians. I chose this design for my cake after being in a Tims and seeing their Canada 150 mug. It immediately caught my eye with the many Canadian symbols on it. I just really liked the simplicity of it and I thought it would be perfect to make as a cake for this collaboration.

I wanted it to be more about Canada than Tim’s so was hesitant to add the donut but realized it needed something other than just the mug. I made a Canada looking donut (also cake) with the red icing and maple leaf sprinkles.

The cake is mocha chocolate cake (what other flavor would a coffee mug be??) covered in fondant with a gumpaste handle. The images are drawn with edible marker. This was a treat for my pottery class and I swore them all to secrecy until the collab was revealed.
