I encouraged Ffion to get involved with the design of her cake when her Mum asked me to do it. Peter Pan is her all time fave movie and her Mum seemed a little uncertain about what the cake should look like. Ffion came back to me with a design by Rosebud cakes in blue, but hers had to be pink and she wanted cotton candy clouds – oh and glitter!
I explained that glitter had moved on in the cake industry and had to be of the edible variety. I also pointed out that the figures were bas relief on pastillage. She remained firm – this was the basis for her cake. we also agreed that there should be a little plaque shaped like a pirate map with the wording after I pointed out that it was lacking in this area. I added the little wooden easel which I airbrushed to match the cake
I contacted Rosebud Cakes and was delighted to not only get the go ahead, but also permission to seek assistance if required. It does pay to go back to the original designer. You can proceed with a clear conscience and you may even get an offer of support as I did.
Tonight I left a young lady who could not stop hugging me for making her dream come true. She did say that it was the best part of her birthday, but I suspect the memories from her party will overshadow that. For my part, it is a big thank you to her mum for not running away when I priced the cake, Ffion for her input and for being such a wonderful recipient. Finally, thank you to Rosebud Cakes for being so very gracious.
I hope that you like it too
