The birthday lady is one of a swimming group who call themselves the Dolphins and she loves gardening. I did actually stop short of the request to put the costume ON the actual dolphin.. I *do *have standards. I hung it on the gate instead.
The cake was made in a large roasting tin; smbc’d; ganached and then plastered in as many gumpaste flowers as I could cram on. They are deliberately all different sizes and mixes- it was a joke / fantasy cake (come on- its got a dolphin wearing a crown sitting in a garden for Kryptons sake) so pretty much anything went.
The dolphin (and everything else not flowery) was made of fondant. I have since discovered bulk buying corn syrup (not readily available in UK) so I can make successful modchoc which would’ve behaved better. The gravel was painstakingly manufactured by hand as were the fence posts; I dont own a fence mould.
I enjoyed making this one; a bit surreal. Like me.
