This is the MASK OF MARIMONDA-CARNIVAL OF BARRANQUILLA (COLOMBIA)
The Barranquilla Carnival is considered the most important folkloric and cultural event in Colombia. It is located in the city of Barranquilla (Colombian Caribbean Coast) and begins on Saturday before Ash Wednesday.
One of the most important symbols of this carnival is the Marimonda. A character of mocking, joking and even a fucking hooligan.
A combination of primate and elephant that represents the man born in Barranquilla who likes to have fun and healthy laughing at any situation.
His appearance in addition to the mask consists of a suit made with patches or scraps, full of colors, jacket and trousers upside down, his big nose, ears, and a whistle.
It is a disguise that has gained its place becoming icon of the carnival of Barranquilla.
It evokes laughter, sympathy, and being a piece full of color is absolutely colorful and iconic in our carnival.
