Maria Makiling , Philippine Forest Fairy
This is my contribution to the Woodland Fairies International Artist Collaboration
and a tribute to the most famous Philippine Forest Nymph Maria Makiling . She is said to be the mysterious fairy guarding Mount Makiling. It is believed she is as old as the mountain itself. The very few people who have seen her wandering around the thick forest says she is tall and graceful, with brown skin, deep black eyes, and hair almost touching the ground. She is also closely associated with the white mist that often surrounds the mountain. It is her radiant clothing which makes people who have seen her think that perhaps they just saw a wisp of cloud through the trees and mistook it for Maria. She strolls around the woods to straighten broken trunks, replace nests on the branches of trees, mend the wings of butterflies, and clear the streams of fallen twigs and logs. She is also known to have a generous heart taking form of a young girl or an old woman to help the towns folks.
