The Malayan tapir was once found throughout the tropical lowland r of rainforest of Southeast Asia,including Cambodia,Indonesia,Laos,Malaysia,Burma,Thailand and Vietnam.However,it´s numbers have decreased in the last 30 years by more than50%.Today no more than 5000 Malayan tapirs survive in nature. The main threat to the Malayan tapirs is human activity,including deforestation(for timber and)for the agricultural purpose of planting palm oil plantations.Like all tapirs,the Malayan tapir us in danger of extinction;and it is listed in the IUNC Red List of Threatened Species.Only 45 individuals of the Malayan tapír are foun throughout Europe.
