This was my contribution to the World Animal Day collaboration – The Barn Owl
The barn owl is widely known for their heart-shaped faces, which is mostly white with a brownish outline and deep black eyes. They are nocturnal, hunting in open fields and meadows. Barn owls do not “hoot” but rather screech and hiss. The loss of safe nesting sites and hunting grounds due to development, poisoned prey and severe weather causing starvation has put them on the endangered species list.
My piece is made from modeling chocolate, fondant and RKT. The talons are gum paste. She is a young adult which can be determined by her more brownish coloring than the male. This was my first attempt at sculpting a 3D bird and I am pretty pleased with the outcome. Hope you like her too.
