Not a cake, but a cake topper. Made for a birthday cake for a friend next weekend. Gumpaste Blackberries and blossoms from a Maggie Austin Craftsy class. Time consuming and a bit tedious because I had a difficult time getting the berry seeds to attach to the gumpaste center without falling off. But I was happy with the finished project.

These are beautiful, Shirley! I’ve been wanting to do black berries for two years.

Thank you Toni and Sandra. I signed up for that class last year and am just now getting around to making these.

There lovely Shirley… When I made mine for my son’s wedding cake I used gumpaste glue, those balls kept falling off!! I ended up using of all things simple syrup to attach. Then brushed all over with it when done. Gave them a nice shine, and they dried like a rock!!

Thank you June. Something I never thought of. In the class she says to use CK piping gel. I tried that and the berry seeds slid right off. I tried just brushing water on the dried center cone, same problem. I finally brushed the dried centers with piping gel, left them over night to dry and then brushed on another coat of gel. I had the berry seeds made ahead and just stuck them on one by one, took forever but it worked lightly pressing them into the soft gel.
