My vanilla sugar cookies are decorated with Royal Icing in the style of ‘Illustrated Typography’ on a ‘crackle effect’ background, for Earth Day 2016. The letters ‘E’ shows flora growing in desserts, ‘A’ shows cactus life, ‘R’ shows the rocks and gems found over- and under-ground, ‘T’ shows the trees and greenery on our planet, ‘H’ shows the butterflies that are crucial to our flowers, ‘D’ shows life underwater, ‘A’ shows life that relies on our trees, and ‘Y’ shows the tiny life that live on the surface of our planet. I tried to cover all who live in the skies, on the land and in the waters, of our beautiful (but dying) planet.
The National Geographic Society has been inspiring people to care about the planet since 1888. It’s one of the largest nonprofit institutions in the world. It’s interests include geography, archaeology, natural science, and the promotion of environmental/historical conservation.
