This was my entry for the Iowa State Fair last year. The pictorial scene for a vintage first birthday. The highchair is made of pastillage and hand painted. It is entirely edible; no supports were used. The balloons are made of gelatin. The rug on the topper is hand waved fondant. The sides are smocked and piped. Also, the flower garland is all hand made.
It was funny, because the people in the competition was not only amazed for the cake, but also for the fact that I’m a homeschooling mother of a large family… that I took with me to the competition!
