Be My Valentine 50 Shades of Cake
presenting my Fifty Shades of Grey cake for the Be My Valentine – Movie Nights Collaboration
Fifty shades darker is this monotone three tiered cake, textured with royal icing and edible sequins to create a luscious contrast.
Featured is a hand painted Plaque of Anastasia Steele an Christian Grey, painted with black and white edible colours with slight pops of colour.
The cake is finished off with a hand piped cake lace mask and bright red sugar roses for that pop of colour.
I chose 50 Shades of Grey because I think it does have a building, sexy, captivating type of romance, entangled with a dark side of love and how Christian Grey Expresses that love. I portrayed this by using mostly dark tones which has an essence of the unknown but courage to be able to see past all that like Anastasia does. I wanted to bring a pop of colour into it with the red, and red being the colour of love and Valentines Day. I loved being able to get the chance to do some painting again and my inspiration came from a photograph. I also enjoyed working with different textures to create the tiers
I made a teaser video for my cake, watch it here: https://vimeo.com/homeofthecakeartist/50shadesofcake
