I had the great pleasure of partnering with Susan and ACD magazine on this special Trend edition. Inviting 16 amazing cake artists to create Trend inspired cakes to kick off the new year.
My cake was inspired by the trend for Jeweled cakes….as a wedding cake designer a lot of my cakes feature bling, so I wanted to explore this trend. I covered my cake with white fondant which was airbrushed with midnight blue, I then combined blue disco dust with some sanding sugar and sprinkled it on, dusting off the excess. I understand that technically “disco” is not an edible product, and naturally when cake decorators use these products…it can cause some controversy, but this cake was for a styled shoot…and brides are still requesting glittery cakes. I feel that so long as your brides give informed consent and so long as the fondant is removed, it is fine for use. The floral cascade are individually wired flowers, covered with swarovski crystals and crystal brooches. I painted the flowers with Rolkem silver. I especially love the florals because they would make beautiful keepsakes following a wedding. The bottom tier is covered with little blossoms and then highlighted with silver rolkem.

I hope you like this trend inspired cake.
