I made this cake for an auction being held during a high school hockey tournament. I was given free reign on the design with a preference for something hockey themed. I had to come up with a design that would be of interest to all those attending the tournament, ie nothing team specific. I wanted to push myself a bit & try something different & so decided on a skate standing on its blade. My boyfriend & I worked on the structure design together & then he built it for me :-) I’ve included a picture of said structure.
I worked on this cake without the aid of any templates or a tutorial so my plan was to take progress pictures in order to post a picture tutorial of my own. I started out good, taking frequent pictures but soon forgot about taking them once I started to decorate it & so I have a big gap in the process. I may still post it one day.
While it’s far from perfect, I am still really happy with the final cake. One person at the auction tried to pick it up as if it was a real skate!

i’m looking to make this for my grandson. You did an awesome job! do you have a template for the bottom structure? also how much cake and what size cake did you use? I’m assuming about 5-6 layers high, then sculpted? You don’t ha[[en to have a picture of it before you put fondant on??
marottawa I made this cake three years ago and don’t remember the details or if I took any progress pictures. I’ll have a look to see what I can find and get back to you.

Thanks so much kelly. Any help would be more than welcomed! Thanks.
My sincere apologies as this totally slipped my mind. I started a new job for the summer and have just been running non-stop at home. Is it now too late to help out?
