I don’t usually do many ruffles on cakes as I don’t really think I’m very good at them, so I was very much tested when it came to making my design for this years Cake International. I had wanted to make another Steampunk themed cake since making one back in March and this was the perfect opportunity! I wanted to focus more on the attire of the Steampunk lady and explore the different fabric textures and colours. I used modeling chocolate for the corset and buckles and the rest is all fondant. I even made my own jewellery and gear moulds so I could be more unique. Especially since I wanted lots of jewellery to look like its all falling out from the hiding place underneath her top hat.
All this paid off and I was delighted to receive my very first GOLD award from the judges, they even said they thought my leather work was actual real leather! Totally gobsmacked and speechless..I’m still on cloud nine!
