Carved ganache cake for Rocky Horror Sugar Show

Carved ganache cake for Rocky Horror Sugar Show

I was lucky enough to be able to be part of the small team that managed a group of 40 cake artists to produce the Rocky Horror Sugar Show- a cake art installation put together for Cake International in Birmingham earlier this month. The 40 artists produced an array of stunning pieces to celebrate 40 years of the Rocky Horror Show. The project came together as a walk through installation of five rooms, as scenes from the show. We had a ball, and I was extremely proud of the whole project.
This piece was done to show some of the wood carving in the hallway. I ganached a 6" tall, 8" round cake, then piped the ganache in swirls and shapes, finally carving the piped pieces using a variety of modelling tools. Once it was all dry, I dusted the carving with gold lustre dust. I was very pleased with the overall look of the piece.

This was brilliant – lots of people at CI admired the novel technique, and of course the delicious chocolatey smell!

This was one of my fav things there!
