The story of Layla and Majnun was known in Persian at early as the 9th century . The tale and the name “Layla” served as Eric Clapton’s inspiration for the title of Derek and the Dominos’ famous album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs and its title track in 1971. The song “I Am Yours” is a direct quote from a passage in Layla and Majnun.
