The Paint Palette cake shows just how messy testing and combining paints can be. I used the palette knife technique for the details on the sides of the cake, using a criss cross pattern in bold complementing colors. The cake actually depicts a stormy canvas before the calm ending of a painted art work. I was inspired by the contemporary palette knife portrait paintings of Australian artists in general.

The cake toppers are all hand sculpted in gumpaste and airbrushed to replicate different types and number sizes of brushes. Extra detail was given to the shape of the brush handles and tips. No moulds used.

The presentation is custom made to replicate a paint palette made from wood. The wood grain effect has been done free hand. No impression mates were used.
