Inspiration for my piece came from, dare I say, the darkness in humanity. I also felt the Witch-King of Angmar and the Nazgûl don’t get enough play. Haha. To me The Lord of the Rings is representative of everything that we are, were and can be. There were moments where I got a case of the feels thinking about the story as a whole while painting my piece and listening to “Pippin’s Song” from “Return of The King”. The runes circle the bottom symbolizing the rings given to mortal men. They were pulled from a version of the Witch King’s helmet and read, “Nine rings for mortal men doomed to die”. All hand painted with edible paints on fondant.
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
“Go then, there are other worlds than these.”
