Just Dance Just Dance Just Dance Just Dance

For those of you who don’t know me, as well as making cakes I am mum to 5 children (yes, I know I’m insane). So, I am forever picking up and dropping off children at various activities, – Xmas panto rehearsals, Dance World Cup summer school, Snoopy the musical, but most often to the ballet school, where my 3 girls take ballet, modern and street dance classes (my youngest son is also showing an interest in dance). So, we are all singing all dancing in our house (apart from when I’m shouting at them to put their shoes on because we’re late, again!). Anyway, so it was fabulous to be asked to make a cake for the dance schools annual prize giving and to be given free reign on the design.

The school colours are blue and white, so I decided to use these colours on the cake rather than the usual ballet pink. I also wanted the children/young adults to feel they were included in the cake and so I tried to incorporate as many different dance elements as I could – trainers for street dance, a highland dancer in a kilt, a tap/modern dancer with a cane and top hat and of course a ballet dancer.

I particularly love the baby ballet dancers trying on the big girls ballet shoes, which are way too big for them. I also love the little dancer in her wellies. You may laugh at this, but I got this idea from one of my children who insisted on wearing her wellies to ballet.

Everything on this cake is edible apart from the cane, which is a cocktail stick painted black with edible paint.

Hope you like it. Sam
