Well this cake was probably my biggest challenge in some ways. The bride (who is actually my friend) was getting married in Cyprus and this cake was her official wedding cake but for here in the UK when she celebrated back home at her reception. Her brief was at least one tier must be chocolate cake and her colour theme was peach and Ivory. Also, she quite liked beach themed cakes but didn’t really like blue on the cake.
So a beach themed cake with no blue. Um ok!
I sketched the cake up but I did struggle to see how a beach theme could be created with no sea, no blue in fact!!
Luckily for me peach was actually a great colour for shells, Sky etc so I decided on a rustic picket fence with bunting to personalise the cake and used crushed shortbread biscuits to create sand. The centre tier was painted in iridescent lustre dust to represent the shimmer found on some shells and I hand sculpted the star fish but used a mould for the shells.
The top tier was my favourite. The red sky at night was replaced with a peachy sky at night theme and the brides step mum supplied me with a photo of a sunset in Cyprus on the actual night the couple were married! I used my airbrush to create a base coat of peach but used dry lustres to create the scene :-) the two doves of course represent the happy couple!
