Microscope cake created for Fisher Scientific’s customer appreciation day. This is the third year I’ve done a cake for them & every year it gets harder to come up with a design as I feel I have to one up myself from the previous year. I did not prepare for this cake as I normally do, it was a lot of design on the fly & therefore a tad stressful….lol. With the help of my boyfriend I was finally able to figure out how to support the microscope internally & have it endure the hour long drive to the event & hold up for the day.
The base of the microscope is cocoa banana cake, the frame & head are styrofoam & the stage is foam board. All remaining details of the microscope are fondant or gumpaste.
The slab cake is made to resemble a lab bench. The logos around the edge of the cake were printed on a sugar sheet & are those of all the companies who had a display at the event.
The note pad & pen are made from gumpaste. The slide box is made from rkt covered in fondant with a sugar sheet label.
Everyone was really impressed with the cake so it was worth the stress. The last photo was sent to me by a friend at the event a I wasn’t able to stay. She said nobody wanted to be the one to cut the microcope. Too funny!
