The groom was very specific about this cake – he’s an avid duck hunter and he wanted a “dead duck” on his cake – with shotgun shells. He wanted it very rustic and the duck to be a Mallard Duck. The cake was 12" square (2 layers of cake – 4 inches tall) butter cake with white chocolate buttercream (colored brown). The board was covered in fondant, textured with a wood train mat, then airbrushed. I used shaved chocolate and chocolate curls on top of the cake for extra texture (wood bark). The duck body was rice cereal treats covered in modeling chocolate. The head and feet were modeling chocolate. The shotgun shells were gum paste. The feathers were hand-cut wafer paper – painted with cocoa butter mixed with petal dusts.

It’s certainly beautifully made but I’m a lil upset by scenes of dead animals in general … Not sure what I’d do if someone ordered this from me, I probably couldn’t do it. It’s very realistic though x
