I loved making this cake from start to finish. Steampunk theme has been on my ‘to do’ list for ages. I used the feather mat from Claire Bowman and wanted them black but the black lace mix has a soft flexible finish meaning the feathers wouldn’t stand up straight. I tried lots of different techniques of combining lace mixes but opted for making a batch of flexible black feathers and a batch of premix firm finish gold feathers then layered them up.
