SG50 to me is a celebration of our past and future. I applied a color palette of red and white, our national colors, as well as gold to represent this golden milestone in Singapore’s history. The top and bottom tiers were covered with a red ikat traditional fabric pattern to represent our cultural heritage. The Vanda Miss Joaquim orchids made of gumpaste represent our commitment to green spaces in our garden state.

Around the middle tier, I added hand-drawn silhouettes of Singapore’s famous monuments, old and recent ones, such as the Merlion, Changi Airport Control Tower, Esplanade, Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay and the Singapore Flyer. In celebrating our nation’s 50th birthday, I wish that we will look forward to a golden future ahead, while not forgetting our historical achievements and cultural heritage.
