After taking Sharon Zambito’s tutorial, I was very excited to explore what I might do to make this more like my own. A Dome shaped white cake is covered in butter cream icing, then covered in a layer of fondant to create a smooth dome. Petals of fondant have been cut, worked, and applied to create the effect of petals of a rose! The base is wrapped with fondant that has been pressed into a mold simulating crocheted lace for a nice border finish. The border was then treated with a fine brush and petal dusts in shades of green to further create the illusion of crochet work as a surround for the base. It’s a cake large, enough for one and even for two if I weren’t a greedy cake freak. The cake is baked in a Wilton mini wonder mold and it has four wells for cake mix. These are much larger than tea or cup cake size. The pan is intended to create domes of cake that are inverted to decorate as dolls…so they provide a really nice, large piece of cake to decorate with and no cake shaping or trimming is necessary. I’m including two different cake pictures on this one because the same cake can be treated in many more ways and these are just two of the ideas I had for making cakes that are perfect for giving as individual gifts or as special treats for dinner guests!
