This was my very first attempt at a sugar flower. This is a banana cake with cream cheese frosting (my mom’s favorite!) and a gumpaste peony on top, made for Mother’s Day this past weekend. Thank you to Maggie Austin’s “Decorating in Three Dimensions” class on Craftsy! It wasn’t until after I finished that I went back to the class and realized I had the outer petals turned the wrong way, but I’m still VERY pleased with how it turned out! I’m working on basically a duplicate cake now with another peony, so I’ll try turning the petals around and see how I like them!
