A joyous family celebration in Spring when my youngest son Daniel married his beautiful bride Karen, joined by their three wonderful children Olivia, Amelia and Joshua (seen in one of the pics below). It was also the 10th Anniversary of the day they met! I can’t begin to express the happiness I felt that day. This cake is a combination of themes to represent this lovely family. Karen wished for a traditional tiered fruit cake with marzipan and royal icing and handmade flowers. The girls requested a Princess Castle cake, so the castle theme and the horse and carriage were introduced. The groom doesn’t usually get a look-in but Karen and I conspired in the background to include a Zen theme to the cake and so, having been inspired last year by the recently restored Himeji Castle (from 2010 to March 2015), this was what we settled with, which was also ideal for the five tiers of rustic royal iced walls and window frames. All gluten free. Many thanks to my husband Rod who made a miniature air fix model of the castle for reference. Genius! The wedding project also included a ‘Marathon of Cold Porcelain Flowers’ from bouquets to buttonholes, hair decorations, corsages and fascinator – a couple of shots below – one with my eldest son taken leaving the house, sooo excited! I made some but not all of the gypsophilia as I ran out of time. I loved every single minute of this project and want to do it all over again!
Love to you all xx
