My first time ever making gumpaste hydrangeas, even though I love to grow hydrangeas almost as much as I love roses! In fact, the combination of roses & hydrangeas is my favorite in a garden! So I was inspired to make these reflect all the individual beauty of hydrangea blossoms, where no two florets are the same.

I recently took a flower dusting class by the incomparable Ruth Rickey during the That Takes the Cake show in Austin. I am by NO means any good at flowers, but I am determined to learn & get better! Ruth’s class was invaluable, & I am sooooo happy with how the blossoms & leaves turned out! If you ever get a chance to learn from her, JUMP at it! The entire cake is hand-burnished with Ruth’s lovely blue shimmer dust, & sugar pearls in lovely spring colors or ivory, chartreuse, & soft blue adorn the bottom.
