Pretty Pink for Yasmine!

A cake collaboration to remember and celebrate the life of Yasmine, a very special little girl. Aged 5, Yasmine developed a brain tumour and battled against all odds for five months, embracing each day and never complaining. Sadly it wasn’t a battle she could win. Ten years after her passing, we remember her.

March 2nd, 2015, marks Yasmine’s 15th birthday. Pink was Yasmine’s favourite colour and she loved all things girly, including princesses and fairytales and her favourite place was Disneyland.

To honour Yasmine, I wanted to create a fairyland garden that could be appreciated by a little girl, whether 5 or 15, and filled it with some of the prettiest pink flowers that are also my personal favourites, cherry blossoms and lotuses. The topper is made from gumpaste and is to symbolize Yasmine as a fairy, strolling and frolicking in her fairyland garden.

I made these cherry blossoms (see 2nd pic for close up shot) following a tutorial by Calli of Callicious Cakes, that appears in the UK Wedding Cakes & Sugar Flowers Cake Craft Guide magazine issue 19. I fell in love with hers when she first posted them on her page and this was the perfect opportunity to use them in a design!

It has been my absolute pleasure to be a part of this collaboration and have such respect for the strength that Bobbie-Anne and others in similar situations have, despite the huge loss they have had to endure.
