I helped my daughter with this cake for a friends daughter. It was our first topsy turvy cake.
The ballerina was the biggest obstacle. The party girl wears glasses so we brainstormed about how to make that happen. We decided a flat image would be easiest since we could draw the glasses onto her face. It is actually an exact copy of the party invitation with glasses added.
I rolled gum paste about 3/8" thick and cut out a copy of the Ballerina on the invitation. After drying overnight I began bringing her to life.
I love working with my daughter. We each have our special talents and we brainstorm well. She has the imagination with no fear and I seem to be able to figure out some of the more difficult details.
It is a simple cake but her friend was delighted. The little Ballerina Birthday Girl was pretty happy too.
