This was my very first pirate ship cake. And, goodness gracious, it was a doozy!
The client is a friend of mine and also a local event planner, so I wanted this to be special. And she was also really knowledgeable about the cost of things, so she didn’t blink when I told her how much this cake would cost.
It was about two feet from bow to stern, and about 20" tall (to the top of the tallest mast).
The cake was chocolate with a chocolate-peanut butter ganache filling and iced in chocolate ganache.
The entire cake is covered in modeling chocolate. I used no fondant on this cake.
Both the bow and stern pieces are made with modeling chocolate and all hand-modeled and dry-brush painted.
The doggie on the bow, Riley, was hand-modeled using modeling chocolate, as well. I made him at the last-minute (because I forgot!).
The masts were made using icing sheets and modeling chocolate and the net rigging was made using piped candy melts.
Thanks for looking!
