I made this cake for an anniversary party with some girlfriends. I’d been seeing a new unique “tulip” buttercream flower recently, but none of my friends seemed to know how it was done, and Google failed me this time. I thought I would give it a whirl and see what I could do. This turned out to be quite the challenge, and although I’m not 100% happy with how they turned out, I’m calling it tentatively a success. You can see about 8 of them scattered amidst the roses and other flowers. They aren’t really tulips, but do have the standing long petals like a tulip. Because the frosting had to be so thick to pull them off, my roses are bit ragged on the edges, but I still think they are beautiful :) This is the first time I’ve played with buttercream flowers in about a year I think? Not so bad for being out of practice, eh? I will admit, I missed my fondant though :)
The cake itself was my way yummy chocolate cake, with a raspberry jam filling and peanut butter buttercream. Flowers were vanilla buttercream. Way rich, but oh. so. yummers!!!
