This cake was made for an accomplished Bharatnatyam dancer, who is also a new mother. But the client was sure he didn’t want any human figurines on the cake. It took me a while to come up with this design. After a lot of back and forth, creating and changing the designs around seven times, we came up with this idea.

The Lotus, is a symbol of creation in Indian culture, a seat of Lord Brahma the Creator. It is also of special importance in Bharatnatyam. The Peacock feather is used to symbolize baby Lord Krishna, also of prime importance in the dance form, and signifying the birth of a baby boy.

The rest of the design on the cake are all the myriad jewelry used in the dance form and the peculiar Saree pleats.
