A 50th birthday cake for someone with incredibly diverse interests. I agonised over how to incorporate them all into a cohesive whole – including Kerala in India, cricket, red sparkling wine, ghost trains, St John’s College Oxford, Bloomsbury in London, his garden shed where he had a “museum” as a child, and calendars – and in the end decided to represent each on one a panel on the lower tier and keep the top tier nice and simple.
