This cake was for an old friend. He loves cricket, golf and football, works as a precious metals trader in the City (London) but his wife who ordered the cake as a surprise wanted something elegant and black and white to fit with the colour scheme of the party, and not too heavy on the sports theme. The bottom and top tiers were chocolate truffle cake with chocolate ganache filling and the second tier was vanilla sponge with vanilla buttercream. In behind the sports balls there is a small fruit cake covered in black fondant – the client requested that there be a small part of the cake that was fruit for themselves. Golf ball & club, cricket ball & bat, football & West Ham United scarf represented his favourite sports, the top tier has the hand painted skyline of London all the way around it, and on top there is a small silver ingot covered in edible silver leaf both which represent his career. Modelling chocolate figurine of the birthday boy complete with coffee cup. They both absolutely loved it which is always a relief!!
