Country Baby cake

Country Baby cake

Normally I don’t accept cakes so close to the party even. I had already turned down several cakes before this one because I was so pressed for time on other cake I had committed to for the same Event date. But while in the store I received a phone call (normally I let voicemail answer those but for some reason, I answered). Like all the other phone calls on this particular Tuesday, this mom was asking if I could make a cake to help celebrate her twins ( boy and girl) first birthday. Her baker, at last moment had told her she could no longer commit to doing this cake and dropped her the day before. She was desperate. As bakers, this is not an unusual story. What broke my heart however, was the story behind her story. And as heartbreaking as her story was, I knew I had to help. As soon as deposit was paid, I went to work. Staying up all Friday night to make sure 2 3 tiered cakes made it to their destination Saturday morning. There was no sleep that night. But a great sense of satisfaction as I went to deliver this cake and you could tell the stress/anxiety this mother was holding was washed away with relief as the cake entered the room.
