This cake was a 5 inch cake with 3 layers. It was a birthday cake for someone who had dedicated over a decade of medical training to specialise in their field and had achieved completion of this and was looking at the next phase of her life. The peacock was a perfect symbol of transformation and renewal, of the next step and the future. I wanted to inspire her and celebrate her achievement. I also wanted to add in a vintage element to the cake and added a cameo brooch to symbolise nobility which I think the recipient of the cake has beautiful personal qualities. The shade of the cake was important so I chose a striking deep turquoise blue to make the peacock feather layers pop. I finished it off with accents of antique gold to add to the vintage edge.

The cake is a madeira cake with chocolate ganache. Everything on this cake is edible and made of fondant. It could easily be made for any occasion and in any size. Very time consuming and delicate to place each piece and layer it carefully, but worth the effort as it’s quite an effective attention grabbing cake.
