Tool Review: Rubber Matting

This really isn’t a “tool” per say, but very essential none the less. As you can see, I have a very large roll. Purchased at my Ikea store. I use this rubber matting in so, so many ways. Love this stuff!! Anchors my cake on my turntable or counter for applying bc/ganache, fondant, piping, decorations. I use a piece under my cake in the box and in my car trunk every time I transport a cake. Box never moves…and I’ve never had a cake accident using this stuff, even hitting bumps in the road, or a unexpected sharp turn. I put matting under a bowl so it sits still on my counter when I’m mixing something, bowl stays put. I basically use it under anything I don’t want to move, and stay stable…that’s furniture , knick knacks, flower vases…whatever.
FYI: This matting was originally developed for camper trailers so dishes and other things stored in the trailer cupboards would stay put, not move all over the place when pulling the trailer on the road. At one point, you could only purchase this at a camper trailer dealership. I remember as a teen, helping my Mom cut and place this matting in the numerous trailers they owned over the years.

I swear by the stuff!! I’ve got small ones! I transport all my cakes and most of them to London and Hampshire so travel between 170-200 miles. These work, they really do!!!

I love this stuff too June, and always put it under my cake for transportation. I have read of some people even using it to emboss their fondant for an interesting texture.

Oh yes…forgot that tip too Toni. I have also used this matting for embossing a cake…
