Thank you so much Justsweet and BedlingtonBakery. Thank you for the wonderful comment about the boot Bedlington! I have not done a tutorial for this one yet. I have a Facebook brief guide on Facebook which will tell you the story behind the boot which you may find helpful. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.405655562851982.95717.183774861706721&type=1&l=5fa7696be1

I have made another boot tutorial for Christmas Santa Boots in December last year. This is the link: http://cakesdecor.com/FifiCakes/blog/414 which you may find useful for shorter boots that do not require a support through the middle.

Thank you again for your vote! xx If you have any questions at all, please feel free to ask away!

Thank you for the tutorial. This is awesome. Quick question…I’m working on a ‘The Good Dinosaur’ cake and I’d like to try the stone look on the cake. Should apply the fondant on the cake and then do the stone look??
Ok, thank you in advance!!

HI Rosie, thank you for your interest in the texture effect. If you are using soft fondant and therefore don’t need to use to much pressure if the cake is a soft texture, then it would be fine to do this on the cake. You can also achieve textured effects with royal icing (or frosting) and then colouring it up after it is dry. I used that technique with some stone walling on a castle cake by using a cocktail stick to create the marks and grooves and then applying various colours of dry powder when it was dry. I then whooshed that about it the same way, using a bit of water. This is the texture:

This was created on fondant without damaging the cake. This was a mud cake which is quite firm and had chocolate ganache underneath which had set, so enabled me to apply a small amount of pressure

I do hope this is helpful in some way Rosie, please ask me any more questions if you have them :) Good luck with the Dinosaur! I am looking forward to seeing it :)

Love
Fiona
