A fashion inspired cake done for a dear close friend of mine’s surprise 40th birthday party. The design on the cake is inspired by a Kebaya designed by the Indonesian Fashion designer Anne Avantie (https://www.facebook.com/anneavantie).
I had been wanting to do a fashion inspired cake for while and as soon as I saw this pic (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150260960760938&set=a.10150260942760938.328897.98817075937&type=3&theater ) ,
I just had to try my hands on it and also knew that my friend likes Orange and Black so thought this would be perfect for her. Had few hiccups along the way but finally got there. Tried the lace work for the first time.My figurine seem to be getting better…. not perfect as I want it to be but much better than my previous ones ( feeling very happy about that :-)). Thank you Pauline from Pauline Bakes the cake for the tip of how to make the face smooth. I don’t know whether I did justice to the design, but my friend really loved the cake so that’s what matters the most I guess :-)

Oh my…. Thank you … Thank you so much gorgeous ladies, Kath, Jules, Toni, CuriAussietycakes and Tota for all the beautiful and lovely comments :-). So very flattered and happy.
It did take a while to do Kath ‘cos I was using the new instant version of sugarveil type of paste called ’Flexi Paste",It didn’t work out the first time I made it and I almost gave up ( time to invest in a digital scale ;-) ). Second time I was more careful and this is the result :-). I am still keeping the first batch, want to see If I can create flowers with it!!!
Toni, I just loved the intricate detail of Anne Avantie’s creation and wanted to take it up as a challenge to see whether I could recreate it with cake.
