This is my cake for the Aussie Takes the Cake collaboration for Australia Day. These are the iconic RM Williams riding boots made by Mr RM Williams who was born and raised in South Australia (which is my home town). Whenever I think of Australia I think of our hard working farmers who sacrifice so much and weather so many difficulties in our challenging terrain. RM Williams were created for farmers, stockmen and Bushmen, so for me it was a no brainer to represent this iconic boot and brand.
The boots are Mississippi Mud, ganached and covered with Satin Ice chocolate fondant. Creating the right texture and look was quite an involved process. Using my husband’s own RM WIlliams boots as my inspiration, I created wrinkles and bends with a balling tool and hands. I airbrushed black, medium gold (non sparkle), orange and brown around the boot to highlight worn out patches and folds in the shoe. I then used a sponge to create a leather texture – I had brown and black hands for days! Lustre dust for a more earthier and grittier look and lastly brushing wet and dry black lustre dust colour to create shadow and depth.
Please take the time to visit our collaboration page – everyone’s piece is unbelievably amazing. Thank you for your support x
